What is this project about and who is behind it?

The Citizen Science Vienna project is a Citizen Science project carried out by the Department of Media and Communication of the University of Vienna. The project is led by Prof. Jörg Matthes and coordinated by Melanie Saumer and Phelia Weiss. Our research team is supported by the advisory board, consisting of three citizen scientists from Ukraine currently living in Vienna.

The aim of this project is to assess the current situation of displaced persons/refugees from Ukraine living in Vienna in regards to their social inclusion. For this, we invite the affected persons to function as citizen scientists by tracking their experiences of opportunities for social and political participation. The collected data will then be anonymized and analyzed by our researchers.

The Citizen Science Vienna project is funded by the FWF Austrian Science Fund under the Top Citizen Science funding iniative.

How can I become a Citizen Scientist?

To become a Citizen Scientist and participate in this project you just have to register an account on this website. Then you will have access to the tracking tool, as well as the pre- and post-survey, and you can interact with others in the community forum. This project is aimed at displaced persons/refugees from Ukraine who are currently living in Vienna.

We as researchers rely on your experiences as a displaced person from Ukraine in Vienna. Therefore, we encourage you to track all opportunities for social inclusion you encounter in your everyday life, be it offline or online.

The surveys we ask you to take before you start using the tracking tool and after the tracking phase are designed to help us evaluate the impact this Citizen Science project has on the lives of displaced persons/refugees from Ukraine in Vienna. You help us a lot by filling them out! This way we can also make improvements in future projects.

How does the tracking tool work?

The tracking tool is implemented into this web-app as a form. You just fill out all the parts that are applicable for you and submit for every opportunity of social or political participation you want to track. You can track as many of your experiences as you would like.

The more information you fill in, the more knowledge we can gain from it.
